DESCRIPTION – The Apparatus enables the student to experimentally balance a rotating mass system and to verify the analytical relations.

The apparatus consists of a steel shaft fixed in a rectangular frame. A set of four blocks with a clamping arrangement is provided. For static balancing, each block is individually clamped on shaft and its relative weight is found out using cord and container system in terms of number of steel ball.

For dynamic balancing, a moment polygon is drawn using relative weights and angular and axial positions of blocks are determined. The blocks are clamped on shaft accordingly and then the shaft is rotated by a motor to check dynamic balance of the system.

The system is provided with angular and longitudinal scales and is suspended with chains for dynamic balancing check.

CORIOLIS COMPONENT OF ACCELERATION APPARATUS

The apparatus uses hydraulic analogy to represent the rotating slider.  It consists of a rotating block to which attached are two pipes, diametrically opposite.  Water flowing through pipes represents rotating slider. The rotating block is rotated by a variable speed motor. 

The torque given by motor is proportional to Coriolis Component of Acceleration. Water flow is measured by a Rota-meter.  The torque is measured by a torque arm & spring balance, thus directly indicating the torque.  Thus, the Coriolis Component of Acceleration can be determined.

Water is circulated through the system by a small pump.

MOTORISED GYROSCOPE APPARATUS

The apparatus consists of a heavy rotor mounted in bearings. The rotor is driven by a variable speed motor. The motor weight is balanced by weight plate form on another side of motor. By putting weights on to the weight plate form, torque can be supplied to rotor. Mounting of rotor is such that it can move about three axes. by measuring the applied torque angular-velocity of precession, it can be shown that applied torque equals to Gyroscopic couple, i.e. I.w. w_P.
